Summer Rhythms 2010 – Music, Dance and Live Performances
Summer Rhythms 2010 brings together colourful live performances, music, dance and vibrancy to Derby’s city centre kicks off in style with the Caribbean Carnival and the South Asian Arts Festival this July.
Since 1975 the Caribbean Carnival been going from strength to strength and this year begins on Saturday 17th July where it takes to the streets of Derby with their famous Procession Day. This includes talented troupes from all over the UK including London, Leeds, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Luton, Bradford and Derby. The procession, complete with elaborate floats, leaves Pear Tree Community Junior School at 1.00pm, then dances its way to the Derby’s Market Place at 3.00 pm, with a costume exhibition and a stage showcasing a range of local artists from dance troupes to singers.
Sunday 18th July the Caribbean Carnival’s family day comes to life on Osmaston Park from 1pm. With so much to do including an international headline act, local and national artists providing music for all tastes, funfair to keep the children entertained, catering stalls selling Caribbean and European foods as well as arts and crafts stalls, there really is something for everyone.
The South Asian Arts Festival continues the Summer Rhythms fever on Sunday 25th July in Derby’s Market Place from 1pm with an outdoor music and dance extravaganza from the world of Bollywood to Bhangra with a twist of urban flavors!
Surtal Asian Arts will unleash the captivating essence of South Asia to the audience with the evocative sounds of Indian classical, Bollywood, Bhangra and fusion dance and music. Come and be part of a one of the biggest outdoor live Asian music event in the East Midlands, where an array of national and International acclaimed artists such as Rajeeb Chakraborty, Bollywood Vibe, Jaz Dhami, JK, DJ Tiger Style with MI21, Lippicool and Predator Prey, step up their acts to take audience through a musical journey from traditional India to discover a more contemporary multicultural Britain.
Audience urged to arrive early to enjoy a complete day visiting other attractions such as Asian fashion and beauty, children’s storytelling, trying out mouth watering spicy authentic food stalls, or having a go at traditional Arts & Craft from South Asian sub-continent.
